For the 2011-12 church year, the Unitarian Universalist Church in Livermore will begin a theme-based approach to programming. Our worship, chalice circles, and some of our religious education will revolve around common themes.
Why is this important? Many people join a religious community seeking answers to basic spiritual questions. The theme-based approach to programming offers participants the opportunity to explore such issues in-depth. By developing competence in spirituality and theology, one can face life’s challenges with greater integrity. As well, by exploring these themes across generations, theme-based programming equips families to discuss religious questions.
How can I engage these themes? Through worship, newsletter articles, chalice circle discussions, religious education, and spiritual homework, members are able to engage these themes in a number of different ways. You are invited to speak with the minister about deepening your participation with these themes.
What are the themes for the 2011-12 year?*
September ~ Unity
October ~ Vocation
November ~ Gratitude
December ~ Spiritual Thirst
January ~ Grace
February ~ Prayer / Spiritual Practice
March ~ Letting Go
April ~ Salvation
May ~ Truth
*We thank the All Souls Church in Tulsa, OK, for providing many theme-based resources for Unitarian Universalist churches.
